DRIS broadcasts news and audio information including local and national newspapers, magazines, and special interest programming such as health, hobbies, and politics. Any person who is unable to see, hold, or comprehend conventional printed matter because of a diagnosis of a disability – including a learning disability – may apply for a receiver. Those who are registered with Oakland Talking Book Service or any other network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled qualify.
